The Samsung SPH-P9000 is a Ultra-Mobile PC (UMPC) runs Windows XP, the special Windows XP Tablet Edition used by UMPC ("Project Origami") devices. Samsung aren't marketing the SPH-P9000 as a UMPC handheld, but it is. It has EV-DO (3G CDMA) with WiMAX (802.16) support, which means that the SPH-P9000 had high-speed data access wherever it can get a WiMAX or EV-DO signal.
It weighs 560 grams and measures 143x92x30mm (5.6 x 3.5 x 1.2 inches). It has a folding keyboard, and the main display is a 5" 800x480 pixel unit, and there's a 1.3 megapixel camera facing the user. Internal storage consists of a 30Gb hard disk and it has Bluetooth.
The SPH-P9000 is a Korea-only device and it won't work in most other marketplaces where GSM and UMTS are the only network carriers. However, the WiMAX and EV-DO connectivity is only a small part of the overall technology in the SPH-P9000, so we could well be seeing devices like this in the rest of the world sometimg in 2007 or 2008. Samsung say the the SPH-P9000 should be available in Korea during the first half of 2007. There is no word on any similar devices for non-Korean markets at present.
This is probably the best UMPC I have seen as it has a proper keyboard but still will work with a stylus for those who like to struggle with this concept. |
Netcraft, a Bath, England based Internet services company reported in November 2006 that there were more than 100 million web sites on the Internet (101,435,253). In 2005 17 million web sites were added to the Internet and by November 2006, more than 27 million more had been added.
The current growth of web sites on the Internet is about 25% per year which means that we will reach 200 million by 2010 or 2012 if growth slows and people fail to think up enough unique domain names!
Historically between 1991 and 1997, web site growth was a massive 850%. Between 1998 and 2001 the growth had slowed to 150% per year. The above statistics include web sites that are not working or domain names that have been bought and parked with an ISP. In 1994 the web went from 700 websites to 12,000 recording a growth of 1600%.
What this explosive growth in web sites means is -
- Your web browsing experience this month will not be the same as in 12 months time.
- New technologies result in a different (note I did not say better) web experience. Fast broadband sppeds, we talking ADSL2 speeds here are making watching TV from web capable devices (computers, phones, portable computers) more of a reality.
- The more web sites there are, the more difficult it is to do a search in Google or MSN Search and come up with what you are after.
